    Lattice Dislocations

Line defects where ordered structure breaks.

Dislocations are line defects in the crystal lattice โ€” places where the ordered atomic arrangement is disrupted. They are the primary mechanism of plastic deformation. Under stress, dislocations multiply rapidly; their density can increase a millionfold. More stress equals more disorder. When the internal distortion is mapped, these zones light up like fault lines in the microstructure.

    Solutio

    The dissolution of form.

Solutio is the alchemical operation of dissolution โ€” the breaking down of rigid form into fluid possibility. The cracks in the vessel. The solid becoming liquid, the fixed becoming volatile. The structure begins to leak. In the Rosarium Philosophorum, this is where the old king must drown before the new one can rise.

    Cognitive Dissonance

    The cracks in the persona.

When the ego encounters information that contradicts its self-image, cognitive dissonance arises โ€” the psychic equivalent of a lattice defect. Anxiety. The moments when automatic responses fail. Each "dislocation" is a place where the old identity can no longer maintain structure. Jung called this the beginning of the confrontation with the shadow: the parts of ourselves we have refused to see.
